Viseu International Music Spring Festival
18th edition
April 4 to 25, 2025
‘Where words fail, music speaks’ - Hans Christian Andersen.
The spirit of this phrase embodies a deep connection between music and human emotions. Music has the ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, touching the soul directly. Music often serves as a source of inspiration, both for the artists who create it and the listeners who enjoy it. It has the power to stimulate creativity and imagination.
May April be a month when music brings people together, transforms environments and brings joy to everyone in our city. May sound art continue to be a link of connection, inspiration and celebration of life!
The 18th Viseu International Spring Music Festival is a celebration of musical diversity, bringing together talents from all over the world to share their art and passion for music.
With a programme of superlative artistic quality, the FIMPViseu promises to enchant and thrill audiences with great performances at emblematic venues in the city such as the Grão Vasco National Museum, the Viriato Theatre, the Aula Magna of the Polytechnic of Viseu, the Misericórdia Church, the Auditorium of the Emídio Navarro Secondary School and the Dr José de Azeredo Perdigão Regional Conservatory of Music in Viseu.
The Festival kicks off with the Orquestra do Centro premiering Partita, a commission from composer Sérgio Azevedo. The programme then moves on to more intimate moments, with various soloists, chamber music and a special focus on Beethoven's music. The end of the 21 concerts taking place in Viseu from 4 to 25 April will be the Choir and Orchestra XXI, who will bring us music by Brahms, Manuel Cardoso and Gabriel Fauré's Requiem.
The festival also promotes social inclusion through the Pedagogical Concerts, from prisons, old people’s homes, institutions that work with people with disabilities, hospitals and countless schools, we aim to reach different audiences who can’t go to the FIMPViseu concerts, so the Festival goes to them, promoting music as a form of expression and transformation.
