Viseu International Music Spring Festival
Of course, no music festival lives without concerts. Our programming is usually anchored in chamber music, but it’s not limited to it. We like to bring some musical diversity by promoting classical to contemporary music. The public can enjoy concerts dedicated to various instruments, soloists, orchestras, symphonic choral music, music elaborated and/or performed with a computer, the intersection of music with other arts and even world premieres. As an incentive to create every year, one or more composers are invited to create a theme to debut in Viseu. Since 2016, António Victorino de Almeida, Amílcar-Vasques Dias, Jaime Reis, Eduardo Patriarca, José Carlos Sousa, António Chagas Rosa, Evgueni Zoudilkine, João Quinteiro, and João Pedro Oliveira were some of these composers.
Another important note goes to pedagogical concerts. For the most varied reasons, there are times when music should go to people and not the other way around.
With the International Competition, in the areas of Guitar and Piano, we intend to place Viseu on the map of Music Festivals with international projection.
After the success of the first editions of this contest, in 2020 we reached the 4th edition of the Guitar Competition. This event will bring together in our city several guitarists of great international recognition that will be part of our jury, as well as a large number of virtuous young performers from all over the world.
With more than 20 concerts in each edition, the influx of audiences and the way the city mobilizes has been impressive. We would like to thank all those who, through their presence, give meaning to this initiative. We would also like to thank the musicians who visit us, our patrons and all the entities that support the Festival.
Special thanks to the Municipality of Viseu, in the people of Mayor of Viseu Dr. Almeida Henriques and Cultural Councilor Dr. Jorge Sobrado, for having cared so strongly and accompanying this important event for our city.
